ST CATHARINES (June 16 2018) – After going undefeated in the FIBA U18 Americas tournament leading up to the gold medal game, Canada would match up with the United States in revenge match from last summer’s FIBA matchup where Canada came out with the Gold. This year’s matchup was a bit different with USA Dominating in the second quarter to cruse to a 113-74 victory on Saturday night in the gold medal game of the FIBA U18 Americas Championship.

In the first quarter Canada and USA traded basket for basket which looked to be a competitive matchup throughout with Canada having the home court advantage in their back pocket. Canada would have a early two point lead capped with a 5-0 run, but that would quickly turn into a 9-0 run by team USA with Canada fighting to keep it close trailing 29-20 at the end of the 1st quarter. Tyreses Samauel came out the gates a man processed Leading Canada on the boards with five, four on the offensive end and scoring 7 of Canada’s 20 points after one quarter.

Team USA turned up the intensity in the second quarter on both ends, sticking on Canada like white on rice on defense and running in transition every chance they had helping extend their lead at the end of the second quarter 61-33. Going into the third quarter Canada would need to locate it’s shooters and limit the turnover to have any chance of cutting into the lead. It looked like Canada got the message coming out with a sense of urgency to start the third, getting their offense going early and slowing down the pace while executing more efficiently on both ends of the court. But team USA was just too much firing on all cylinders-determine to keep their lead USA would end the third quarter with a 84-52 lead.

In the fourth quarter the two teams would continue to trade baskets with USA ultimately holding the lead they built to take the victory over Canada. AJ Lawson led the way for Canada with a double double scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds, Tyrese Samuel also finished with a double double scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds, team captain and FIBA All-Star Andrew Nembhard had 12 points and 8 assists, while Addison Patterson and Emanuel Miller both chipped 11 points apiece.
