The Raptors 905 took down the formerly undefeated Fort Wayne Mad Ants in a thrilling 109-107 victory. As one can tell from the score this game was not easy for the 905 as this game was truly a tale of two halves. The Mad Ants by halftime were still on fire offensively and led 61-49. In the first half the 905 let the Mad Ants torch them. By halftime, The Mad Ants shot 52.4% from the field, hit 12 threes on a 60% clip and Trey McKinney-Jones of the Mad Ants had 16 first half points.

However, the second half was a completely different story. The North Side held the Mad Ants to 46 second half points, scored 60 points themselves, and jumped from 42.6% from the field at halftime to 48.4% at the end of the game. The North Side also won the rebound battle 42 to 33 as well as the second chance point’s battle 52 to 30.

“Those guys competed. Man they played their butts off.” said Raptors 905 head coach Jerry Stackhouse. Coach Stackhouse also commented on why the Raptors 905 had such a dramatic turnaround in the second half “We kept fighting, we kept sticking to our game plan, we kept sharing the ball”

When looking at the stat sheet, the stat that really jumps out as a huge reason why the 905 won was the turnover battle. The 905 forced 21 turnovers leading to 35 points. Stackhouse commented on winning the turnover “We were active. I think we had 11 deflections in the first quarter and came back and had 11 in the third quarter… we were really active.” One player who was exception getting steals was Will Sheehey.

Will Sheehey who led the 905 in scoring with 23 points on 10/14 shooting, was also a major contributor to the Mad Ants turnover woes. Sheehey had 5 steals for the 905 and was part of the 905’s comeback in the third. “We got really tight in the paint and played inside out”

A negative for the 905 was defending the 3. The Mad Ants were lights out from downtown, shooting 21 threes for 54%. Christian Watford and Juylan Stone were the both giving the 905 fits from beyond the arc, as both had 4 and 5 threes respectively. That is a trend that fans should watch closely.

The 905 head on the road for their next game tonight against the Canton Charge. Tip-off is at 7:00pm
