MISSISSAUGA – Fred VanVleet’s game-high 23 points was not enough as Raptors 905 (3-1) dropped its first contest of the season, 100-91 to the Maine Red Claws (5-2). Damion Lee scored 22 points for Maine, as they earned their fifth victory of the season.

Raptors 905 found itself trailing after the first 12 minutes of play for the first time this year, as Maine shot 57.9 per cent from the field and led 31-18 after the first quarter. Damion Lee scored 10 points in the opening frame to set the scoring pace for the Red Claws.

In the second quarter, Raptors 905 would receive a boost from Will Sheehey, who came off the bench and contributed nine points including two three-pointers. J.J. Panoske would counter for Maine, recording eight points in the frame. Heading into halftime, 905 had trimmed the lead to three, trailing 59-56.

Assignment players would dominate the third quarter as Jakob Poeltl, assigned to Raptors 905 Saturday morning, would score eight points in the frame while Demetrius Jackson, on assignment from the Boston Celtics, would lead Maine in third quarter scoring with six points. Poeltl would finish the game with a double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in 34.3 minutes. After 36 minutes of play, Maine’s lead was reduced to one.

Damion Lee would again pace Maine, scoring 10 points in the final frame, to secure the 100-91 victory. Marcus Georges-Hunt finished the game with a double-double, recording 19 points and 10 rebounds.
